On the Job by artsytarts On the Job by artsytarts
So, thought I'd finally do something with my OC's again because they've been heartlessly abandoned over the last few months. They've been sitting somewhere in a dark corner in my mind and haven't had the chance to do anything worthwile.

So here they are (well, two of them): My boys on the job!

It's a scene from a story of mine that I'd like to turn into a comic book.

In this one those two have been sent out by Merryweather to find and capture a beast that escaped from a parallel universe into another, through a portal. (Jerry explains the whole thing here [link])
It's their job to bring the beast back to it's own universe and close the portal. Unfortunately the ATOM tracking system couldn't get a reading on the beast, so basically they have no idea what they're up against.
And on top of that it's Henry's first job. Yay! (Yep, I'm mean.)

Oh, they're gonna have fun.

Oh yeah, that's another thing: Remember Butch? He's got a new name now! He's called Henry McKirmik.
I felt the old name didn't really fit to him. I always thought he looked like a Henry. And he also lost the limp. Another thing that didn't really make sense and didn't have a proper explanation. At least one nice thing I've done to him ^^;
Jerry still hasn't got a last name, but he's generally stayed his wicked old british self.

As for their clothes: I decided to give everyone a uniform, specially made for the field. Jerry is wearing something he put together himself, believing that it would make him irresistable to the ladies. Hasn't worked yet. Also: nothing can part him from his goggles, no matter where he goes. (and yes, he is wearing a wetsuit under his clothes, cause of the 'cool head thingie', as he calls it) Of course, the fingerless gloves have to be there. :)
Henry, being a simple man, just swapped his brown leather jacket with a black one.

I've had endless fun drawing this. Especially cause I kept imagining what would happen next. :plotting:

See ya, guys!

Whoa!  What an awesome concept!  I love the lighting and the fog.  Gives it such a chilling feel.  It's so dark you can almost see something in the background but can't really tell what it is.  And that eyepiece is extremely cool.
Sound's like you've got some pretty fun characters and ides here!  Love it!

Thank you so much! I'm thrilled you like it. :D The thing with the background is a pure coincidence. XD It seems like you can see a wing of the dragon in the background. I only realized that much later. I just love those dark and kinda scary pictures, so I tried to do something like that myself ^^

I really regret that I'm not doing more with them. I don't really know where to start explaining, I suppose.

I know exactly what you  mean about knowing where to start.  How much backstory do you give and where?  That's a hard one for me.  And in space stories you have to explain the rules of the universe they live in, because each sci-fi universe is different.

Yeah, exactly. That's the reason I didn't really share anything about my OC's. But the way you do it sometimes with a story snippet in the description is a pretty good idea. Maybe I should try that too...

Another problem I have is that I still haven't been able to build up my universe to my satisfaction. I've been slowly chopping away pieces from because it was just too complicated. XD I think I tried to start too big and tried to make it too logical. Because my stories involve parallel universes, I even read up stuff about quantum physics and string theory to try to base the parallel universes in my story on real facts. In the end I just had to give it up and go with a simpler idea. This stuff is just too complicated. I'm definitely not made to be a physicist. :D

I basically tore all the walls down and started painting them with different ideas. ^^

Yeah i would imagine how much you'd have to think on a story like that.  With parallel universe stories you have to firmly establish the regular one first.

All that physics stuff is pretty cimplicated.  But you don't need to make it into ascience lesson...while that is interesting...most people know what wormholes and parallel universes are without knowing all the math behind it.  It also depends on what audience you're writing for.  Not all science fiction has to make perfect sense.

Absulutely. But once that's out of the way, I hope it'll give me lots of freedom :) I've got a few really cool concepts and stories lined up once I get everything down. I'm just generally fascinated by the idea of parallel universes.

Exactly. I needed far too long to come to that conclusion. I focused far too much on trying to make it logical.

XD Thanks. My boys. I'm so proud of them ^^ They have long since taken over, I can no longer say what they do or don't do. They've got a life of their own XD
Working on a storyline with them. Hoping to start a webcomic sometime. That would be so awesome...
